FAQ’s

Why do you include local telephone service for E911?

Not all VoIP providers provide E911 service. To be on the safe side it is wise to have at least one telephone in the home that is connected to the E911 system. If the provider you choose provides E911 service this cost can be eliminated.

The FCC has recently mandated that all VoIP providers include E911 service. Please verify with the VoIP provider that they have complied with this FCC directive.

Can I call any telephone number from my VoIP phone?

Yes, unless special restrictions have been applied to your VoIP service, you can call any normal telephone and they can call you.

If I move what happens to my VoIP service?

Because your VoIP service is not tied to your physical location you can simply take your equipment with you to the new location and connect it to your new broadband service.

Will I be able to keep my same VoIP telephone number when I move?

Yes, the telephone number will stay the same.

Will the VoIP number be connected to the E911 service at the location I move to?

The E911 services are currently specific to a location. Not all E911 systems can support VoIP. See note above referencing changes to FCC regulations.

If I go on vacation for a few weeks can I take my VoIP phone with me and still receive calls?

Normally, as long as you have a high speed Internet connection at your vacation location you can receive and make calls using your VoIP telephone equipment.

How fast does my broadband service need to be for VoIP?

VoIP service requires a fairly high speed connection in order to obtain good quality calls. Our recommendation is that at minimum the SOHO or Silver packages should be used with VoIP. Lower speed packages will still work, but the voice quality will not be as good.
